Technical documents: summary

The purpose of the TSUMAPS-NEAM project is to provide a regional probabilistic tsunami hazard assessment (PTHA) to the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. This hazard assessment deals only with tsunamis of seismic origin (Seismic-PTHA, S-PTHA). It is conducted at the scale of the NEAM region (North-eastern Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and connected seas), one of the four regions where the UNESCO-IOC Tsunami Programme has set an Intergovernmental Coordination Group. Its results are designed to be suitable for regional comparative screening and prioritization of site-specific assessments, and thus, they are not expected to reach the fine-grain detail necessary for local-scale planning. The diagram below illustrates the various actors and actions involved in developing the tsunami hazard model.
